Our project leader , Seçil Tısoğlu Kaya , conducted an educational visit to a middle school in Devrekani district of Kastamonu province on June 11, 2025, focusing on Scientific Inquiry Skills and Climate Awareness for middle school students. The aim of this visit was to help students approach environmental problems from a scientific perspective, develop evidence-based thinking skills, and better understand the cause-and-effect relationships of climate change. During the activities, students were encouraged to actively engage with the fundamental components of scientific inquiry, such as asking questions, making observations, interpreting data, and drawing conclusions.
The visit was also linked to the dissemination and promotion activities of a virtual reality (VR) based educational project on climate change. In this context, the project highlighted how VR technology contributes to students' understanding of abstract concepts related to climate in a more concrete, experiential, and holistic way; and the pedagogical potential of virtual environments to support scientific inquiry was explained with examples. Thus, the aim was to develop climate awareness among students at both cognitive and affective levels.
This visit is noteworthy for demonstrating that combining scientific inquiry with innovative technologies in school-based learning environments plays a significant role in increasing students' environmental awareness and providing meaningful learning experiences.
